Getting started out on the web is never easy!
There are lots of things that you must prepare before beginning the journey.
Web Evolution has put together this list to help you get on your
way.
Purchase a Domain Name
- you need to purchase a domain name through a vendor, Spot.cc or Dirt Cheap Domains.com for
example. This usually is purchased in one or two year increments, but may
be longer.
- Websitesource.com is one potential group with
decent rates and available space. We can help define for you the things
you will want to look for from your new company.
- Transfer your Domain
- In most cases, the company you Purchase the domain from won't be the
same company you select to Host your site. If not, you need to do a DNS
(domain name server) Transfer from the first site to the second. This may
take a few days for all computers to update. Most sites should have a help
section to step you through this process.
- Get Designing
- If you are a do-it-yourselfer then you can begin using various
programs to edit, modify, and upload your pages to the web once you have
designed them. Some of these are in the Member's Area. If not, you can
then rely on the services of Design companies such as [WebEvolution].
- Submit Your Site
- Once you have something for people to look at, try submitting your
page(s) to different search engines to bring in traffic. Web Evolution
does not currently partner with any Search Companies and therefore cannot
keep people on Submission Lists, however we do have a few links that may
assist your efforts. They are found on our Site Overview
page.
What do we expect from you? We are your
construction firm...but we cannot do it alone. Our customers are expected to
work with us to assure that the site we build meets their needs in terms of
content and appearance. Much like a building contractor is the expert at
constructing your home, he still expects you to pick the design, choose colors
and amenities and so on. This approach can sometimes take a little longer but
it is designed to avoid the construction of an un-suitable web presence for our customers.
What we are not! We are not a web promotion company. While we do include META tags and optimize your pages, this is a shotgun approach and should not be relied upon as your only promotional tool when it comes to marketing your web site. Search engines are always changing and what may work today may not work tomorrow. Customers must take some initiative and responsibility for marketing their web page to the masses. Some options to consider include hiring a professional web marketing company, direct emails and printed ads.
